THE STICKERROAR GUIDE

Checking an Object's Condition Before Adding a Sticker

Inspect the intended area and resolve surface concerns before covering them with a graphic.

Updated

Two people leaning toward one another form a dark silhouette filled with a red, orange and purple seascape.

What to know

A sticker should not be used to conceal a surface problem without understanding it. Look for damage, loose finishes or contamination and ask the relevant supplier how those conditions affect the project. A clean-looking photograph is not a substitute for inspecting the actual object.

Check your plan

  • Look at the area under good light.
  • Record any damaged or uncertain finish.
  • Confirm the surface is suitable before proceeding.

A practical example

A small chipped area may look easy to hide with a larger sticker. Covering it does not establish that the adhesive or removal process will be appropriate there.

The cover shows a catalog artwork example. It is not a physical material test or an installation demonstration. Confirm product-specific requirements for your actual surface.
