THE STICKERROAR GUIDE

Keeping an Illustration's Expression at Small Size

Check the relationship between eyes, mouth and head shape before reducing a character sticker.

Updated

Three jagged red claw marks slash diagonally upward across white space, each edged with a bold black outline.

What to know

An expression depends on small relationships, not just the outer shape. When a character becomes smaller, highlights and gaps can merge visually. Compare the face at its final size and simplify secondary detail if it distracts from the emotion you want the character to convey.

Check your plan

  • Inspect the eyes and mouth together.
  • Compare the face without zooming.
  • Keep the strongest expression cues distinct.

A practical example

A sleepy bird may rely on half-closed eyes and a slumped pose. Extra feather texture is less important if it makes those cues harder to see.

The cover is an artwork example from the catalog. Use the measurements and file checks above to evaluate your own project, rather than treating the image as a scale reference.
