THE STICKERROAR GUIDE

Separating a Logo From a Slogan

Give the main mark and supporting message different visual roles instead of making them compete equally.

Updated

A slim black fleur-de-lis combines a pointed central petal, two outward curls and a narrow band across its middle.

What to know

A logo and slogan can work together when their hierarchy is clear. Decide which should be recognized first, then size and position the other as supporting information. At small dimensions, removing a secondary line may be better than shrinking both elements until neither reads well.

Check your plan

  • Identify the primary element.
  • Compare the slogan at the actual output size.
  • Check the gap between the two components.

A practical example

A bold emblem can lead while a short line sits below it. If the line becomes the most visually dense part, simplify the wording or give the layout more room.
