THE STICKERROAR GUIDE

Why Gradients Are Harder to Remove Automatically

Recognize when a shaded background needs deliberate editing instead of repeated automatic cutout attempts.

Updated

A black dandelion releases delicate seeds that become flying bird silhouettes as they sweep diagonally upward to the right.

What to know

A gradient contains many shades rather than one consistent background color. Soft shadows can also blend the subject into that background. If the automatic result leaves a halo or removes part of the drawing, prepare a clean transparent export in the source editor instead of accepting an uncertain contour.

Check your plan

  • Inspect the lightest and darkest background areas.
  • Look for soft edges crossing into the subject.
  • Export a deliberate cutout when automatic separation is unreliable.

A practical example

A gray studio shadow beneath a character may be kept as part of the sticker. Decide whether that shadow belongs in the final artwork before uploading.

The cover is an artwork example from the catalog. Use the measurements and file checks above to evaluate your own project, rather than treating the image as a scale reference.
